Moor Mother
Moor Mother, the performance name of Camae Ayewa, is an American musician, poet, visual artist, and composer whose work fuses free jazz, noise, hip-hop, and Afrofuturism. Based in Philadelphia, she is co-founder of Black Quantum Futurism and a member of Irreversible Entanglements and 700 Bliss. Her acclaimed recordings include Fetish Bones, Jazz Codes, and most recently The Great Bailout. Ayewa’s multidisciplinary practice explores memory, displacement, Black histories, and alternative futures through sound, text, and performance. A professor of composition at the USC Thornton School of Music, she continues to tour internationally and present work in museums, festivals, and concert halls worldwide.
